A Small World (2001)
A Small World (2001) is a collaborative video installation by Jennifer Zackin and Sanford Biggers. The 6-minute silent color DVD is presented as a single-channel projection and incorporates a physical installation featuring a shag carpet, a 1970s-style loveseat, and simulated wood paneling.
The video consists of Super 8 films compiled from the artists' own family footage, juxtaposing childhood experiences in Eastern European American and African American communities during the 1970s. Through these personal archives, the work explores themes of nostalgia, cultural memory, and shared histories.
