Rose Offering/s (2004)
Commissioned by Factory Direct

Artspace New Haven, CT

For this project, Jennifer Zackin released red, yellow, and pink rose petals from Pinchbeck Rose Farm into the Atlantic Ocean in Maine and Rhode Island, as well as Lake Rescue in Plymouth, Vermont. Floating on the water’s surface, the petals visually traced the rhythms of the currents, forming ephemeral drawings that shifted with the natural flow of water. Rose Offering/s observes and honors nature’s patterns, paying tribute to both its creative and destructive forces.

Zackin first offered the petals to large bodies of water, documenting the process through photography. These images were then used to create a digital print of the rose patterns, which was displayed as part of the Factory Direct exhibition at Artspace New Haven. The installation also featured rose petals and leaves arranged within the gallery space.
