Taps (2005)

Set and Drift, an exhibition on Governors Island, NYC Harbor

Commissioned by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council

For this installation, Zackin wrapped colored ropes around the trees along Liggett Hall to represent the notes of the melody "Taps." This iconic bugle call, traditionally played at the end of the day and during military funerals, was once sounded nightly from the rooftop of Liggett Hall during Governors Island's Army and Coast Guard era. The colors of the ropes correspond to the wavelengths of the notes, serving as a visual farewell to the Island’s military past.
